In our pre-cat days, spring cleaning went something like this ;
All the windows were opened and the screens were hosed off. Closets and cabinets were emptied and items we no longer used were tossed, donated or sold. The house itself got an extra good cleaning and we would move some furniture to reach those out-of-sight places.
It took a weekend to finish, and usually involved one or more of my kids getting soaked with the hose by my husband. Fun times!
Fast forward to now and trying to spring clean when you have cats.
How To Spring Clean In A Weekend When You Have Cats (hint: you can’t)
We went from three kids at home to one (our youngest), but the pet side of our family has exploded! When you have a 20 year old 4 foot long iguana, a 17 year old poodle, two 6 month old kittens and two 2 year old cats, spring cleaning takes on a whole new meaning!
Cleaning the windows now involves trying to get Mr. Kitty and Callie to move from their favorite bird-stalking window sill in my bedroom –
— and having a cat stalk me from the screen room, watching my every move in the kitchen.
When I spring clean I organize my closets and cabinets and put away heavy blankets and comforters.
Except when they have eyes and they’re watching me. Then I leave them right where they are.
Donating a mattress we no longer needed helped free up space, but cleaning under the living room sofa can wait when this little cutie pie (his name is Puppy) wants to rest on it.
Having them under foot is one thing, but when I want to move the kitchen chairs to clean the floor, Mini-Me is usually sleeping on one of them – often in very strange positions.
All this distraction makes our weekend spring cleaning job take longer than it should, which is why its important to have the right cleaning products! I headed to my local Super Walmart to pick up some cleaning supplies, including Pledge Lemon Clean®. It kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria and doesn’t leave any residue. You’ll find it in the aisle with the cleaning supplies.
After I got home, I kept the kittens busy with their tablet. I know, I know – we’re not supposed to use screen time as a babysitter, but it was just this once!
This belonged to my mother and means so much to me to have it in my home now. When I clean it it takes me back to when I was a little girl and my mother would ask me to clean it. She always used Pledge® Lemon Clean Furniture Spray.
When we do spring cleaning, we take everything out and clean it from top to bottom. This is the before shot. Look at the build-up of dust!
This is after! I love how the wood shines when I use Pledge® Lemon Clean Furniture Spray on it!
One of the things I appreciate most about Pledge® Lemon Clean Furniture Spray, is that is can be used for most of my furniture and it cleans, conditions and protects the finish. Our coffee table is a catch-all and needs to be cleaned daily, not only for spring cleaning!
Here is the after shot. This coffee tables came with us when we moved from Brooklyn to Florida and it’s been through a lot but after using Pledge® Lemon Fresh it looks terrific!
I love the fresh scent of Pledge® Lemon Clean. After using it to clean our dining room table and chairs they not only shine, it gives the whole room a just-cleaned scent.
It looks like Callie liked the scent also!
On second thought, maybe not!
